This gorgeous six-directional fetish necklace was made for us several years ago by Juana Homer. Juana is the daughter of Bernard Homer, Sr. and Alice Leekya Homer (d.) She and her brother, Bernard, Jr., are known for their bears, badgers and mountain lions. Bernard, Jr. also makes frogs.
Though she used to be a prolific carver, we haven't seen many carvings by Juana of late. We've heard that she may be helping her aunt, Sarah Leekya, finish and market her carvings.
We purchased this necklace from Juana about five years ago. It's made of fossil ivory and red coral. There are 25 animals that range in size from 1 3/8" long to 3/4" long. Each animal is graduated in size and paired with a mate. There are mountain lions, wolves, badgers, bears, eagles and moles. Each animal has jet inlaid eyes. Juana asked Sarah (Leekya) to string the necklace and Sarah used red coral heishe and sterling silver findings. The necklace measures 30" overall with a 15" drop. It is lightweight, beautiful and very wearable. There is no signature on this piece which is typical for Juana's work.
