This amazing Zuni treasure is by the talented Maxx Laate. Maxx works most frequently in fossil ivory and antler. And this fossil ivory carving is of a turkey family. The Tom is out front followed by the resting chick and the hen. They become more remarkable when you realize that the entire carving is a mere 2" long!
Maxx's work is always realistic, not only in form or posture, but in the "setting". This turkey carving is also realistic in the proud stature of the Tom protecting his family. If you listen closely you might hear the wing tips drag the ground as the Tom struts in majestic display ... Very unique and signed by the artist.
