This precious little blue-eyed orca is made by Calvert Bowannie from black marble and white
Mother of Pearl. He's got loads of personality and happily raises his flukes in the air.
We love the high polish, the tight inlay and the happy vibes we get from this guy.
When we were doing the language pages .. my friend Wells mentioned that, as a child, he remembered his
grandmother telling him the Zuni word for "whale". He'd long since forgotten the word but we both
thought it very interesting that the People of the Center Place had a word for whale.
Perhaps it was acquired from visitors from the coast who had come to trade shell and coral.
We love that you can still find shell and coral in the trading posts .. and your purchase of
Zuni fetishes only perpetuates those long-standing traditions!
Got orca?
