This pretty oso-bear came to us tagged "marble" but we believe it is, instead, an onyx-travertine mixture. Though the colors are
pale and muted, the appearance is more like onyx than marble. It's a beautiful mix. And, of course, it's carved by the well-loved
and ever popular Emery Eriacho.
Emery actually grew up away from the Pueblo but returned when he came across a Zuni bear in a gift shop. The rest is history as
he is certainly one of the most active carvers in Zuni today. We've always appreciated his eye for interesting stones and his
quality work. He also maintains his prices at a level that's affordable for even the most frugal of collectors.
This cafe au lait bear wears an "arrowhead" offering of turquoise that's tied on with a single nugget each of turquoise and coral.
The eyes of the bear are also inlaid of turquoise. Unsigned which is standard for Emery's work.
BEAR: The bear represents the western direction in a protective and healing fetish set. He is associated with the color blue and known for his curative powers. Though all bears are healers, white bears are particularly powerful. Characteristics associated with bears include strength, courage, adaptability, healing and spiritual communion.
