Wow -- the colors in the dolomite frog are yummy! Very vibrant coral (colored) and yellow banding with some adobe red veining
plus dendrites thrown in the mix. (Dendrites are the little, feathery structures that appear in the veins of dolomite and in some
serpentines.)
Georgette has used this sherberty colored stone to make the cutest frog. It's widest at the bottom (aren't we all?) and has
turquoise inlaid raindrops on the back and big jet inlaid eyes (the better to see you with.)
This cutie pie comes to us from a collector who purchased it in 2003 from a traveling trader called Terra Firma. They are no
longer in business but used to show at various gem and mineral venues on the east coast.
FROG: Frogs are a motif that are found in much of puebloan art. They are most often associated with water, prayers for rain, and fertility. Even tadpoles, in their various progressions to maturity, are carved into fetishes. Frogs are carved from various materials by many different artists but the carver most associated with frog fetishes would likely be Ricky Laahty.
