Some really nice things DO come in small packages. Take, for instance, this itty-bitty turquoise froggy. He's carved by Andrew
and Laura Quam. Andrew is the brother of Georgette, Prudencia, Eldred, Tyler, Dwight and Andres Quam. And there are some
similiarities in the frogs Andrew and Laura carve and those made by Georgette.
This little beauty is made from turquoise (stunning!) and has red coral inlay for eyes and claws. There are coral "raindrops" on the back. The perfect
pocket companion! Signed.
We've been consigned this fetish from a collector who purchased it during or prior to 2004 from Terra Firma (a traveling trader
who visited gem and mineral shows on the east coast but who is no longer in the business.)
FROG: Frogs are a motif that are found in much of puebloan art. They are most often associated with water, prayers for rain, and fertility. Even tadpoles, in their various progressions to maturity, are carved into fetishes. Frogs are carved from various materials by many different artists but the carver most associated with frog fetishes would probably be Ricky Laahty.
