We absolutely loved the charming inlay and sweet toothy smile on this sgraffito beaver by Jeremy Lucero. It's carved of black marble but the body and tail are fully etched with great detail. And a beautiful Zuni sunface is inlaid on the beaver's back with additional decorative inlay on the beaver's tail. The eyes are inlaid of turquoise and the carving is signed. Very, very cute!
BEAVER: Beaver fetishes represent home, family and unity. They are revered for their building skills and associated with water by some north eastern tribes. In Zuni they are carved by a variety of artisans some of whom put little tiny twigs in their mouths.
