This dolomite maiden by Russell Shack is purely astounding! When we unwrapped her from her bubblewrap shroud, Dave and I were just enchanted with this girl and then, so surprised to learn that she was made by Russell Shack.

Russell is known for his sgraffito carvings but we had not known him to tackle such a challenging inlay project. You can see from Dave's photos that she has complex inlay of coral, turquoise and lapis in stripes that run around her robed body. The kilt and mask are also extensively inlaided with red coral, turquoise and lapis. Blanket designs fill the spaces between inlaid striped on the robe and the maiden is carrying an (etched) pot filled with tiny ears of "corn" made of turquoise, pipestone, shell and lapis. It is truly an extraordinary work from Russell.
