Sometimes the "youngsters" in Zuni really surprise us and this is a fabulous, complex six-directional set by young Jonas Hustito. Jonas is the son of Clive Hustito and Karen (Bobelu) Hustito. Ellen Quandelacy (d.) was his great-grandmother so clearly his talent is in his blood.

He's created this complicated six-directional carving from augite serpentine but it's more matrix than serpentine. The the matrix is very dark and almost iron-like. The eagle and mountain lion are on top of the sculpture, each resting on a carved arrowhead. The bear climbs up one side (the west) and the wolf up the other. The badger and the mole are both under the carved arrowhead representing the south and the nadir regions. All the animals are well carved but not highly detailed and each has turquoise inlaid eyes. There are a total of three carved arrowheads on this piece.

We're really excited to see this level of creativity and skill from such a young carver. Signed.
