Oh what big eyes you have, Mr. Frog!

All the better to see those teensy little flies they eat, I suppose. Delvin has carved this googly-eyed frog from the standard specimen of Zuni rock - the "family" stone. Grandfather Leekya Deyuse started the tradition of using this locally mined form of travertine and it continues with the younger generation even today.

In addition to the googly Mother of pearl and red coral eyes, Delvin has inlaid the shoulders (yes, frogs DO have shoulders -- see!) and hips (I swear!) with tiny points of turquoise inlay. Some folks think these are raindrops. Could be. Rain is associated with frogs, dragonflies and the like and if you live in a desert environment like Zuni, it's pretty much at the forefront of your thoughts. The offering bundle is tied on with sinew and consists of sparkly abalone and pretty sliver of turquoise. This is a fairly large guy so don't even consider adopting unless your frog pond can accommodate. :)
