Like many of you, we have been smitten to the bone by the work of Vernon Lunasee and Prudenia Quam. Their mountain lions exude grace and power. They come in a variety of sizes but in the recent past we have been seeing smaller carvings made from most Zuni artisans. So it's nice to see a larger piece, like this one, once again.

Vernon and Prudencia have chosen to carve this handsome lion from jet, which is fossilized coal. It's naturally light weight (much more so than a comparable carving made of stone) and pleasing subtle lines make it both a delight to look at and to hold. They've used turquoise to inlay the lion's eyes which are set in the most delicate and beautiful of feline faces. Truly a beautiful treasure from the land of Zuni. Signed.
