Zuni fetishes made from Wonderstone always remind me of the desert. And the colors of this beaver carved by Leland Boone are making me homesick for Zuni. The sky is bluer in Zuni than any where else I have been. Or maybe it's just the contrast between the red mesas and their sandstone buttresses. It isn't desert in the truest sense of the word because there are cedar and pinon pines and juniper which perfume the air (and warm the homes in winter.) But the colors of Zuni are vibrant, alive and healing. Just like the colors in this beaver.

He's a big boy measuring 3.5" long and he weighs 1/4 lb. But from his rounded sweet face with etched teeth to his waffle-etched tail he's a docile sweetheart. Leland has gifted him with an offering of gold-lipped Mother of Pearl, turquoise and red coral. He is unsigned.
