If ever you find yourself in the north western corner of New Mexico and you're the adventurous,
appreciative type, you simply must take the time and effort to visit Chaco canyon. It's a World
Heritage Site and one of my favorite places on Earth. Believed to be a Zuni ancestral home, it has
some of the most amazing puebloan structures spread throughout the canyon. Pueblo Bonito
would likely be the one most people might have heard of.
Emery Boone has fashioned this pipestone frog after a similar one that was unearthed at Pueblo Bonito
and is on view at the museum there in Chaco. Even if there weren't a historical precedent to this
stylized frog, the beautiful lines and colorful inlay would make it quite important in my view! For
those of us who have discovered the enchantment, comfort and pleasure of Zuni fetishes there's
no need to describe the joy that comes from just the weight of a carving like this in the palm. I
don't need to tell you how nice it is to run your fingers over the smoothly finished curves. And
we won't even talk about the time you'll spend admiring the inlay. Your secret is safe with me.
Signed.
