This beautiful blue (directional!) bear is, of course, by the well loved Stewart Quandelacy.
Stewart is probably best known for his rounded medicine bears which come in all sizes from the
petite to the table sized-bear. He varies their silouette just as often as their size and this bear has
a taller profile than most. Even so, he stands perfectly straight and tall.
He's carved from sodalite that is deep blue in color. Sodalite will have patches of white and black
within the blue which differentiates it from azurite and lapis which will be a purer blue. We used
to see sodalite more often than we do today but there is not one artist who seems to prefer it.
Most Zuni artisans just enjoy working a beautiful stone.
Don't miss the opportunity to add a blue bear to your collection. You can never have enough blue
-- or too many bears!
