This selenite wolf was purchased in Zuni in 1999. At the time there was an enormous amount of selenite being carved and many carvers were making huge fetishes from it. We still have a directional set carved by Lena, that was purchased at the same time. This is an unusually large carving from Lena and the original specimen must have been huge. Lena has inlaid the wolf's eyes of turquoise and gifted it with an abalone arrowhead tied on with turquoise and red coral.

Selenite is crystal gypsum and it is very soft. So soft that your fingernail can scratch it. Selenite 'wands' are large crystals many thousands of years in the making which grow in an underground specialized environment. Dave saw a selenite specimen of this size in Tuscon 15 years ago and it was $135. In today's market the same specimen would likely be several hundred dollars.
