This bear is carved by Lena Boone from Australian Print Stone (silicated sandstone ). Originally we identified the stone as "Indian Print Rock" in error. The colorations in the two stones are similar but the patterns in Print rock are far more definitive. (Thanks to collector "Deborah" for pointing out our misidentification!) The bear was purchased in Zuni in 2001 and this is the second time it's been our collection. We actually sold it to a collector at that time who later liquated a large number of bears in her collection and we bought it back from her.

Of course Lena Boone is the daughter of Edna Leki, granddaughter of Teddy Weahkee. She and her children, Leland and Evalena, continue the family tradition in making symbolic, traditional Zuni fetishes. Lena is particularly known for her eye in gathering exotic and colorful stones for her work. She does not sign her fetishes.
