This jet maiden is carved by Claudia Peina. Dave purchased it in 1998 from Matt Leo who told him, at the time, that this maiden and a similar one carved by her brother, Colvin (also purchased by Dave), had slightly larger "twins" that were sold to the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Colvin passed away in 2005 but Claudia continues to carve maidens, angels, warrior women and bears in the style they shared.

This is a large piece, with tablita etched and inlaid with turquoise and lab opal. The intricately etched robe is encrusted with turquoise, red coral and lab opal and the maiden wears a "necklace" of lab opal. Her eyes and mouth are inlaid of turquoise and red coral. This is a stunningly beautiful maiden. It is signed.
