I wonder if the "wild horse" hanging around the mine that this stone originates knows he has a lasting legacy? The miner who brought this material (magnasite hematite) into Zuni dubbed it "wild horse" for the transient mustang who made the mine's location his home. Or at least that's the story that was related to us. There for a while this stone was in great abundance but now we only see if occasionally.

Vernon Lunasee and his talented wife, Prudencia Quam, are known for their delicate faces and graceful carvings of mountain lions, bears and badgers. Rarer than these are their howling coyotes. With inlaid eyes and a long and melodic song to the moon, this coyote is sure to please. Signed.
