Obviously there are so many things that we love about Zuni fetishes and the artists who make them. But not the least of them is the creative use of materials. This is the burr of a mule deer antler. (The burr is where it attached to the skull.) I daresay many of us could look at this piece of material in it's raw state and see much of anything. But Elton Kaamasee saw a bear. He's resting all curled up for a mid-winter's nap perhaps. His eyes are etched and inked and the detail of the carving and the etched fur is simply beautiful. What a talented young man he is .. and the piece is signed.
