Burt was one of the younger carvers we met on our early trips to Zuni. His mom works in one of the trading posts that we frequented and she introduced us. He's a wonderful young man, proud of his family and his traditions. He's one of the talented younger generation of carvers who has benefitted from the experience and skill of his uncle, Gibbs Othole. Burt carves a variety of animals and each one is unique in posture and form. He chooses colorful stones and has a rather abstract view of animal anatomy but it all works and his carvings are interesting, sometimes witty and always project his happy outlook on life.

Burt has carved this little mole (guardian of the nadir region) from sodalite. Some carvers give moles eyes, others do not. Burt has chosen to inlay this little guy's eyes with turquoise. He wears a traditional offering bundle but Burt failed to sign this one. (Guaranteed authentic, we purchased directly from Burt. )
