Eagles are sacred in Zuni. Even today their feathers are highly prized and used ceremonially with utter reverence. The Zunis believe that the Eagle is the messenger of the Gods .. and therefore responsible for carrying their prayers to heaven. Lewis Malie has carved this eagle holding a fish in his talons from deer antler. The carving is highly detailed and well proportioned. Both the eagle's eyes and the eyes of the fish are inked (not inlaid.) Signed on the bottom.
