Obsidian is volcanic glass and 'snowflake' obsidian is just a form that has some inclusion that gives it its nickname. Lena Boone has chosen this material for her old style mountain lion. It's very handsome with its dark background and sprinkled 'stars' throughout. Lena is known to have an exceptional eye for interesting stones and she's gifted this lion with a side offering shell arrowhead eyes inlaid of turquoise.

The reason that this lion is called "old style" is because the tail is up and over the back. Prior to the use of high speed carving tools, the best way to render the mountain lion's tail was in this manner. Now, however, carving implements allow for much greater creativity and long flowing tails or those curled in tiny spirals are the norm. We love the simplicity, though, of this old style. Unsigned.
