An unusual, but beautiful carving, of a longhair (the mask) butterfly kachina. Marlon Lowsayte has used antler to create this symbolic and beautiful kachina figure. The butterfly wings are etched with traditional motifs and inlaid with turquoise. the maiden wears a fringed kilt and hold a vessel filled with blue and red corn meal (turquoise and coral) and yellow (dolomite) whole corn. The eyes of the masked figure are inked in. The hair and mask are etched for further detail.


We don't know the religious significance of this particular kachina but it's very pretty. Signed on the bottom.
