An extremely nice example of the use of materials. Jonas has created the moose body from a green serpentine and the antlers from irridescent thin abalone shell. The creature looks like it just exited its favorite feeding pond, complete with moss covering its body!


Jonas is the son of Zuni carver Clive Hustito, one of the early "realistic" carvers, from the Hustito and Lowsayatee artisan families. Members include siblings Herbert and Cliverlie Hustito, Elfina Lowsayatee, and all of their children Jonas, Matthias, Nathaniel, Sylvester and Jeremy Hustito, and Jonathan Natewa. Other well-known members of this talented family include Virginia Ohmsattie and Al Lasiloo.


The eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the animal is "branded" with the initials "JH".
