This black beauty is substantial in size (3.5 oz.) as well as in first impressions. Curtis Garcia only works in black marble. He carves and polishes each piece (a bear, a badger, frog, buffalo & more) to almost subliminal perfection. The lines are fluid and gentle. Then he, with steady hand and the eye of a true artist, etches freehand all the designs that cover the majority of the carving. They are traditional icons and motifs. I think when Zuni's close their eyes at night, they all see these dazzling, flowing waves and circles, feathers, triangles and sunfaces where as we Melikas (anglos) see only the inside of our eyelids!

The lion is gifted with turquoise eyes which contrast beautifully with the highly polished black marble. Signed, and dated 2010 by Curtis.
