Green Zacatecas turquoise is from the Socavón (Cavern) de las Turquoise Mine, Municipalidad de Mazapil, Zacatecas, Mexico. There has been a rumor going around that Zacatecas turquoise is dyed and fake but that is mostly the blue form, which is actually turquoise-blue PROSPITE from the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. It has been fashioned into items for sale or sold as bulk turquoise and marketed as a turquoise substitute. It is found in the same valley but is NOT turquoise. Another mineral that is substituted for turquoise is HOWLITE which comed from the ground white, but is dyed blue and stabilized. ** Also my virus protection software has detected malware with ALL Mexican google articles about Zacatecas turquoise - beware! (VIPER Security Software is highly recommended by Dave) **

Leland has recreated the iconic posture for his howling coyote of the American Southwest, carved for you from a beautiful piece of real Zacatecas turquoise. The eyes are inlaid of red coral and the arrowhead offering bundle is made of pink shell with a single turquoise nugget. The fetish is unsigned which is typical for the artist and family. This is a really nice Zuni fetish carving that will be a great addition to your collection.
