The Chinese have been carving fluorite for over 3000 years. Ancient Egyptians carved sacred scarabs from the stone and used some of the more colorful pieces on statues of their gods and goddesses. Early Romans valued fluorite greatly, considering it a very precious stone. And, just like with amethyst, they believed a drinking cup or goblet carved out of fluorite would ward of drunkenness! Locations where fluorite is found today include Canada, USA, Mexico, South Africa, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, eastern and western Europe, and also from China where the most colorful purple and green specimens originate.


This medicine bear is the banded variety, highly fractured with a transluscent head area. Backlit the stone really glimmers. Priscilla inlaid the eyes from Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the offering bundle consists of a lapis arrowhead with turquoise and red coral nuggets. The fetish is initialed P L Zuni on the bottom.
