S O L D
When first beginning to collect Zuni fetish carvings, Colvin was one of my favorite
carvers to watch for. His bears had a whimsical quality to their posture, sweet smiles and sometimes it seemed
they had gymnastic expressions as well. It turns out that was a common trait passed down through
the Haloo family and shared among its numerous members. Uncles are Miguel (d.) and Ramee Haloo, Gerald
Peina, and mom Tina Sice, dad Ernest Peina, sisters Claudia Peina, Claudine Haloo, and cousins Craig and Tonia
Haloo and Gabe and Troy Sice all share a common carving thread in the George Haloo Cheechee (d.) style.
Colvin (d.) had great carving genes with which to pull his talent from. He is truly missed.
This standing bear has one of those whimsical poses as if wanting to ask you an
important question while pondering the universe above. The mouth and claws are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty
turquoise but the eyes and necklace of the bear are inlaid of sparkling opal which is less common than other
inlay materials. The fetish is unsigned which was typical for most carvers before the late 90s. Grab on to this
wonderful piece of Zuni fetish carving history before someone else beats you to it!
