On the Zuni reservation, the predominant stone composition of the mesas and buttes in the area is sandstone. In fact, the entirity of the Southwest is composed of sandstones of one variety and coloration or another. Some are brilliant reds and some are dull buff-colored. According to the USGS Zuni sandstone consists of undivided equivalents of the Summerville Formation and Bluff Sandstone restricted to Zuni Basin area and are of the Phanerozoic, Mesozoic and Jurassic periods. The predominent colors of that sandstone layer are represented within this table fetish. Buff colorations and bright shades of yellows and oranges are explosive at sunrise and sunset in the Zuni area, and Pete and Dinah created this giant bear from a great specimen of that local stone in 2005.

As usual the offering bundles of this carving family are well finished and highly polished. The bundle consists of an arrowhead of gold-lipped Mother-of-pearl, and blue turquoise nugget beads and red coral branches separated by heishe beads and tied with sinew. The eyes of this bruiser bruin are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the table fetish is unsigned. This carving is extremely large at over 6 inches long, and really heavy which will be more costly to ship weighing in at a lofty 1 pound 3.4 ounces - almost a pound and a quarter!!

Due to the size, weight and scarcity of this type of fetish carving, it will go fast and first. So don't delay sending your order or it WILL disappear! Truly this will be the centerpiece of your Zuni fetish collection. Good hunting!
