The master of bruin realism is undoubtably Herbert Him. His bear fetishes are great examples of the wild nature of these powerful grizzly bears as they go about their daily routines. The annual fish runs each fall show the animals at their pinnacle as they gallop through the water in hot pursuit or actually snatching salmon in midair during the acrobatic upstream battle to get to the spawning grounds of their birth. The bruins gorge themselves and fill their bellies with roe, skin and meat fattening themselves in preparation of winter hibernation. This bear has just captured his latest snack in the almost never ending quest for protein.


Pipestone is a great raw material for realistic coloration of the Grizzly bear and Herbert recreates a fantastic fish from abalone. The eyes of both the bear and fish are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the carving is signed Herb Him Zuni on the bottom of the paws. Great example of Zuni fetish carving realism!
