Brion is a member of the fortunate few of the younger generation of Zuni carvers who are related
to the master minimalistic carver/teacher Gibbs Othole. Gibbs has passed on his incredible knowledge
of carving techniques and experiences with the many stones that are carved or inlaid by fetish carvers and
jewelers of the Pueblo. Jeffrey, Clayton and Dee Edaakie, Alonzo and Jerome Esalio, Saville, Tracy and
Brion Hattie, Albert Eustace, Alvin Calavaza and Burt Awelagte have all benefitted by that knowledge and
experience. All these young carvers exhibit the minimalistic, sleek, modern lines of Gibbs of his world class
sculptures and fetish carvings.
Brion utilized ricolite serpentine to create the badger of the South direction. The rounded eyes
are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the fetish is signed Brion Hattie Zuni on the bottom of the rear paws.
Awesome addition to any Zuni fetish carving collection.
