Randy's carving ablilities and inlay skills have seemed to have risen above the fray. His human subject also seem to have no boundaries in the carvers' recreations of the traditional daily activities of Zuni life. For example, this carving is of a priest offering a bear in a healing or curing ceremony of some kind, as bears are seen as powerful medicinal animals by the Puebloan Peoples. This is a truly unique ceremonial participant created in fetish form.
This priest has sunfaces inlaid over most of his robe and sashes, and turquoise bracelets and a necklace as well as conchos on his mocassins. The eyes of the bear, as well as all the other turquoise inlay is made of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, the priest's eyes are inlaid of jet and his mouth is red coral. The myriad of sunfaces are inlaid of red coral, Sleeping Beauty turquoise, jet and Mother-of-pearl. The small sculpture is signed Randy L on the bottom of the mocassins. A wonderful addition to any collection!
