The predomiant stone that composes the Zuni mesas and buttes are red and yellow banded sandstones. Brian has been carving the yellow colored variety and he is recently creating large fetish sculptures from this rock. This is a large totem pole carving of three turtles one atop another. They are carved in a modern rendition of the Old Style method of minimal grinding and shaping of a stone, much like the found stones of the original Zuni fetishes. They are not inlaid nor polished and with this raw state style of carving the sculpture feels very ancient and prehistoric to the touch.

The turtles are alternating and are facing one direction then the next one is turned perpendicular to it. The sculpture is very heavy weighing in at a hefty 1 pound 2 ounces! It is signed BY BYatsattie Zuni on the bottom of the carving. It is one of the largest and unusual turtle sculptures we have ever offered here at Zuni Spirits. Don't let it get away from you as this fetish will be the centerpiece of any Zuni fetish collection!
