To my knowledge, Maxx began carving these crabs recently and I just missed getting the first one. Upon first glance it grabbed me and I knew that it would look great in my fetish cabinet, but it was not to be. So this is from the second batch that one of my favorite carvers has produced. He has a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a happy disposition that is a joy in this day and age to be a witness to. He is a teacher of carving to the younger generation, as all fetish carvers and carving families do in Zuni as a rule. They pass on the knowledge, the techniques of the artform to family, clan and friends, and also pass down the reverence for the practices of the Ashiwi, the People. These artisans speak to stones and it is said that the stones also speak to them and when it is all said and done, there is a fine finished fetish carving created through the harmony and balance of man as artist and Mother Nature as teacher. You have to love and admire the process and also you gotta love Maxx!

Maxx has listened to the deer antler and they have conspired together to create this crab in a territorial display. The legs and thorax of the crab are burnished with a torch. Crabs have stalked eyes with acute vision and this crab's eyes are inlaid at the end of the stalk of Sleeping Beauty turquoise. This crustacean is signed MAXX L on the lower carapace of the creature. Great crab carving for the coastal collector. Grab one of the second wave of Maxx crabs and allow this crustacean to be the first crab in your fetish cabinet.
