A good friend from Montana gave me the information about this soft stone having been to the area where it is mined before. Hubert likes the softer stones to work with the tools he has made or purchased for carving by hand. He is one of the only Zuni fetish carvers to do so and we are all fortunate that he does.


His latest advancement in his carving style is to make multiple horse, mares and/or foals which is difficult to say the least for a hand tooled artist to accomplish. He inlaid the eyes of the mare and foal of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the fetish is initialed HP on the one piece base of the carving. This one is one of his best jobs to date!
