Our supplier thought this piece was from the Quandelacy family and ordinarily
it is difficult to tell whether Faye, Sandra, or Stuart or Talia, Chad, Vickie, or Kateri Sanchez is the
artist. They all have similar corn maiden styles but do not usually sign their pieces. As always, once I take
photos of the fetishes comes the task of editing them and the photos at 16 megapixels are in very large
format and it is easy to read the bottoms of the fetishes where the signatures are, there was a surprise!
The initials DC means the fetish was an early 90s carving of Daniel Chattin who carves corn maidens in the
same style as the Quandelacys!
This turquoise maiden has eyes inlaid of jet, and Puebloan geometric designs,
dragonflies, the necklace outline, corn kernels, and a corn plant are etched into the stone. The pendant to
the necklace and a random dot near twin corn ears at the bottom of the maiden carving are inlaid of a
raised and rounded bead of red coral. And again the fetish is initialed DC on the bottom of the maiden.
This is an early fetish from Daniel Chattin, do not let it slip into the Zuni fetish collection of someone else!
