The term jasper is misleading and the nickname of this unusual looking
mineral is leopardskin because of its spotted appearance, however leopardskin jasper is one of the rhyolite
jaspers and its true name is orbicular rhyolite. Orbicular rhyolite is an igneous rock that was formed by lava
flows on the surface. The spots or orbs in the appearance of this mineral probably occurred when molten
lava reacted with fragments of rock known as xenoliths. This once abundant orbicular jasper is a patterned
form of chalcedony which is considered to be one of the quartzes. Rhyolites are extremely fine grained and
being an igneous rock formed by lava flows it consists mainly of quartz, feldspar, and hornblende. It is a
vulcanite rich in siclic acid and its colors include red, browns, greens and tan situated in a pattern similar
to a leopard coat which is sandy colored with glassy black inclusions. It is found primarily in India and
Mexico and the hardness of the stone is 6.5-7.
Leopardskin jasper is an opaque sedimentary rock that occurs as a result of mineral impurities. This crystal
helps you to know those things that the universe has yet to reveal to you. This is the clown stone and helps
with having a sense of humor. It also helps you not to judge others. Leopardskin Jasper was considered a
sacred crystal by some Native Americans and was said to provide protection for shaman. This crystal is
excellent for those that have animals or work with animals especially cats. The associated astrological sign
is Sagittarius.
The eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the offering bundle consists
of an abalone arrowhead and turquoise, red coral and heishe beads tied with sinew. The fetish is unsigned
