When Dave and I started collecting Zuni fetishes in the mid-1990s, the Cheama family dominated the scene. Their highly detailed, realistic carvings were so spectacular and highly sought after by collectors. This snake-eagle combo is indicative of the kind of precision and perfection that the Cheama's came to be known for. Lance has carved every feather on this eagle down to its talons and every scale on the rattlesnake. The eyes are inlaid of jet and the carving is signed on the bottom. A beautiful carving by a talented artist, this piece was likely carved in the late 1990's or early 2000's, And has been held in a private collection since that time.
