This fetish was created from a reddish piece of rhyolite. Rhyolite is often reddish and being high in silica, rhyolite is a stiff lava that tends to have a banded appearance. Rhyolite means flow stone in scientific Greek because it flows slowly if it oozes on the surface. It is typically found in continental settings where magmas have incorporated granitic rocks from the crust as they rise from the mantle. Rhyolite is aphanitic, meaning the individual grains are so small you cannot see them without a microscope. Because rhyolitic magma and lava are so thick, they tend to build up pressure until a gas explosion in the volcano throws them all over the place in particles ranging from ash all the way up to big blocky chunks. We normally think of rhyolite as something that occurs only in the southwestern USA, but it does occur in Maine and other eastern states, it is just not as common.

Ron has created a twisted wabbit, much like Bugs Bunny in a cartoon. Often Bugs would do a pirouette and his ears would twist like this. The rounded eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the fetish is signed Ron Laahty Zuni NM. The question is who does NOT love a twisted wascawy wabbit, eh doc?
