We are fascinated by this piece. It would be stunning if it were three inches tall .. but the fact that it
is under 1.5" tall makes it astounding. The detail and symbolism in this carving are rich and plentiful.
Carved by Florentino Martinez in 2016, it is made from Picasso marble and features a Frog Rain
Priest. The frog itself is extremely realistic and detailed. It wears a loin cloth, turquoise bracelets and a highly
detailed necklace. He gazes upward to the heavens to direct his prayers for much needed rain for crops, animals and people.
He stands on a cornmeal bowl/round kiva that is etched all around with exquisite puebloan
architecture. You may need to get your magnifying glass out for this one! Stepped designed (clouds) and dragonflies (associated
with water) adorn the pot along with the stone dwellings. It's really superb. Puebloan history is
so interesting and the art and symbolisism associated with this piece will make it extra special to you.
Signed and dated, this one has been in our collecttion for five years.
