This "Cortez Gold" was a new material to us when we purchased this carving. We’ve had it five years and I don’t recall seeing a lot of this material being used by Zuni carvers.

But Lena has crafted this small mole and gifted it with a pink shell arrowhead tied on with turquoise and red coral beading on sinew. Moles are usually depicted as blind so they don’t have inlaid eyes however some carvers will etch little slits where the eyes would appear.

Moles are associated with the underground or nadir direction and the color black. This fetish isn’t signed which is normal for Lena's work.
