This sweet little turtle is carved by the husband and wife team, Andrew & Laura (d.) Quam. They used spotted serpentine for the base and inlaid turquoise for the back of the shell. That was then inlaid with red coral and incised, making it look like the ridges on a carapace. The turtle's eyes are inlaid of jet.

Andrew and Laura were best known for their turtle and frog carvings. Andrew is a brother to Prudencia, Andres and Georgette Quam and his family taught Laura how to carve fetishes.

This fetish is signed, although it is illegible.
