This tiny medicine bear was carved by Rhoda Quam. Rhoda was the daughter of Annie Quam (d.) and sister to Lynn Quam. She passed away in 2002. Rhoda's aunt was Ellen Quandelacy and the Quandelacy family are neighbors to the Quam family.
The medicine bear is one that has a rounded back and his nose to the ground, seeking healing roots and berries. This small bear would be the perfect gift to someone in need of healing - perhaps as a tiny pocket fetish in a bag. It's made of gold lipped Mother of pearl shell, and is white on one side, while the reverse side has the "husk" of the outer shell.
Rhoda inlaid a multi-colored heartline on the pearl side, along with a coral "star" and jet eyes. On the reverse side, she etched stars and a feather and inlaid with lapis and turquoise.
Very thin - a bit wobbly but will stand on its own. For stability we would recommend using a tiny bit of poster putty, just to keep him perpetually upright. Unsigned.
