As stated in other pottery descriptions, we are not bonafied pottery collectors. Every piece in our collection (and there are only a few), was purchased solely for its beauty. We enjoyed displaying pottery with our fetishes. So, we aren't experts!

Here is what we know about this pot and one other in this listing, that is very similar. They are made by Cynthia R. Sequi (Komalestewa). She signed her work at this time, "C R Sequi" and she was Hopi. She was fairly prolific and a search will find a variety of very similar seed pots. We have priced these two in accordance with those we saw online that were sold by auction houses.

Cynthia, at some point, signed her work with "Komalestewa" as her last name. She was born in 1955 and died in 1995. We purchased these pots on ebay in about 1998, so after her passing. In her obituary (very brief) online, there is no mention of her name being Komalestewa. Her work is described as "Hopi Polychrome", but she was born and died in Navajoland. She had four siblings, all deceased, as are her parents. We do not know anything about her teacher or her process, although her slips and pigments are certainly natural. Her painting skills are exquisite and both pots feature symbols for parrots, rain, clouds, and the sun. They are perfect with no chips or flaws, and both are signed on the bottom.
