This sweet shell maiden was made by Tim Lementino from a cowrie shell. I've always thought it was interesting that shell made its way from coastal nations to the interior where most plains tribes used it to adorn clothing or jewelry. I've even heard that there is a Zuni word for "whale". !!! This carving depicts two corn maidens, sweetly carved into the shell surface and inlaid with an abundance of care with turquoise and red coral. Just the right size to start or add to your collection of maidens. Their story is such an integral part of Zuni lore .. Unsigned.
