Alvin is one of the fortunate few carvers of Zuni to have the master of minimalism as his tutor. Along with Albert Eustace, Saville, Tracy and Brion Hattie, Burt Awelagte, Jeffrey Tsalabutie (d.), Jeffrey, Dee, Clayton and Jerome Edaakie, Alonzo Esalio, Jr. and Joey Quam have all been the lucky apprentices of Gibbs Othole.

This sleek, slender and elegant eagle was created from honey calcite, an amber-colored variety of that crystalline stone that passes thru Zuni every few years. It is crystalline, translucent and encrusted with druzy white calcite on one side of the bird. The eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the fetish is signed Alvin Calavaza, Zuni on the bottom.
