This pretty little frog is carved from either serpentine or gaspeite that has mellowed with age. The only reason I say that is because I have a gaspiete piece that has turned olive green in the last 25 years, whereas it used to be a brighter green. (All monitors are different but the pics of this frog appear more yellow green on my monitor that it does in life.)


The frog was carved by Chris Yuselew (d.) and it has raised eyes inlaid with turquoise and turquoise raindrops on the back of the frog. Frogs are associated with the constant prayer for rain that is necessary for life in the arid highlands of Zuni, NM. The carving is signed on the bottom, "Chris Yuselew, Zuni".
