When we first started our Zuni fetish collection one of my favorite carvings were fish and Terry (d.) was one of the best fish makers in the Pueblo. It really hit me hard when he passed and we realized there would be no more Banteah fish coming from Zuni. But his wife Christine watched him create these bass and perch fetishes that he carved and she began recreating them.


Not only was it fortuitous to be able to find one and also to have it published in a Zuni fetish book was an added bonus. It is featured in the book Zuni Fetish Carvings by Dr Harold Finkelstein on page 15 photo number 37. It is made of gold-lipped Mother-of-pearl and is heavily detailed and accurate in scale and proportion. The tail is in motion and is seems to be focused on lunch.


The eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the fetish is unsigned which is common for the carver. Be sure to be the one to add this fetish to your Zuni aquarium!
